Compensation Bill [HL]

moved Amendment No. 45:"Page 9, line 43, leave out ““may”” and insert ““shall””" The noble Baroness said: My Lords, this amendment makes it a mandatory requirement for the regulations to enable the regulator to issue a code of practice about the conduct of authorised persons. This will be an important document, which will outline the standards of service consumers can expect from authorised providers of regulated claims management services and is something the regulator should be required to issue. The code of practice will be prescribed by the regulator and he will consult on the content before seeking approval from the Secretary of State. The code will be a useful document for consumers, as it will clearly set out the behaviours that they can expect to receive from persons offering claims management services. I hope that noble Lords will be happy with that move from ““may”” to ““shall””.
