Britain is about 60 per cent. self-sufficient while France is about 180 per cent. self-sufficient. The low countries and Germany are all more than 100 per cent. self-sufficient. In the case of the UK, the hon. Gentleman’s suggestion means that applying our own rules would be much more sensible.
