Planning Policy

Proceeding contribution from Lord Beith (Liberal Democrat) in the House of Commons on Wednesday, 1 March 2006. It occurred during Adjournment debate on Planning Policy.
: I point my hon. Friend to an example in my part of the world, where as a result of top-down decisions on the regional spatial strategy by a distant and unelected regional assembly, historic towns such as Alnwick and Berwick are being told that only 60 houses a year will be allowed to be built in the entire district. Sustainability of house building is also important to the conservation of historic towns.
