: The hon. Gentleman makes several interesting practical suggestions, but is he prepared to write off the historic town centre as a place of retail activity? That would be a bitter blow to many historic towns, and it is something that has been made much worse by the proliferation of supermarkets around the edge of towns and all the public transport and other problems that they generate.
