Social Security

Proceeding contribution from James Plaskitt (Labour) in the House of Commons on Thursday, 16 February 2006. It occurred during Legislative debate on Social Security.
If the hon. Gentleman waits until the Government respond to Lord Turner’s report, he will find that the issue is effectively taken up there. The hon. Member for Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch and Strathspey (Danny Alexander) also dwelt at length on Lord Turner’s report. He reminded us of the one Liberal Democrat pensions proposal that has so far emerged—the citizen’s pension, which is specifically rejected in the report. We will see whether the Liberal Democrats make further proposals in due course.
