Company Law Reform Bill

I am not convinced by the argument about Amendment No. 231. Now is not the time to revisit my arguments, but I intend to strengthen them and return to them. On Amendment No. 230, I should like to make a suggestion to the Minister, which might help. I appreciate that there are great practical problems, and the Minister was extremely fair in setting them out. We appreciate that. I suggest that between now and Report, I and other noble Lords who take an interest in this—perhaps a controllable number of those representing the Institute of Directors and the CBI—might have a meeting with officials at Companies House to go into the practicalities. If we are talking about an impossibly expensive, lengthy and labyrinthine procedure to protect a few people—and I admit that it is a few, not many—we might revise our views. But this is a very important principle for me and for my noble friends. If the Minister would be happy to facilitate such a meeting, we would like to take him up on that. On the assumption that the Minister would like to do that, I shall give him an opportunity before I withdraw the amendment.
