When I had responsibility for moving government amendments in another place many years ago, I always used to believe that it was gracious, helpful and sensible sometimes—I hope that this will happen later—to accept amendments that did not counter policy but were designed to improve the Bill. So I am rather disappointed that the Attorney-General has said what he has and I shall certainly pass on his comments to the very distinguished firm of solicitors at a well known address in the City.
