Compensation Bill [HL]

The word ““professional”” must have been tested in the courts many times. I would just like to be sure that we do not assume that it is a term of art that can be used in different contexts and different ways. In court, what does it actually mean? Does it mean that you have to be a member of a profession and then you have to show you are a member of a profession? I daresay that some of the people in claims management services, maybe even trades union officials, might have quite a hard job demonstrating that they were professionally qualified for this sort of activity. I do not know how the courts have interpreted the word, but I think that it would be worth checking.
