I warmly welcome the amendments in the name of the noble Baroness, Lady Turner. I particularly endorse her remarks about the Select Committee’s report on economic migration to the EU, which was submitted in early December, although the Government have not yet replied to it—I make no complaint about that, as the Government are still within the normal timescale for doing so. However, I was somewhat disturbed by what the noble Baroness said about the Government’s reluctance to sign the convention on the rights of migrant workers. As far as I understood her, she said that she had received a letter from the Government saying that that was not at present on their agenda.
