Compensation Bill [HL]

There certainly is. I shall keep quiet while the Leader of the House distributes some festive cheer for us. The noble Lord, Lord Hunt, and other noble Lords were concerned that there might be uncertainty if statutory duties, in particular those set out in these two Acts, were not expressly included in the reach of Clause 1. The happy moment now arrives for the noble Lord when I say that, prior to the Report stage, I shall consider an amendment to bring in such a statutory duty. I not sure whether it will be framed in the way suggested in these amendments or in those we discussed previously. However, if the noble Lord permits, I shall bring forward beforehand a form of words to discuss with him and other noble Lords who are interested to ensure that the point is covered. I am grateful to the noble Lord because his amendments have caused me to think again. I hope that what I bring forward will address his precise concerns. Along with our mince pies, I hope that I have been able to give the noble Lord a degree of Christmas cheer of another kind.
