I support the noble Lord, Lord De Mauley, on this. It is a very simple and practical problem. Clearly, a large number of credit agreements that are still operative came into force long before the Data Protection Act and long before lenders thought that they would have to share data. That is a problem, and if the right reverend Prelate were here, I have no doubt that he would be supportive. We are seeking to have more responsible lending because data sharing clearly acts as protection against irresponsible lending. It is a very straightforward amendment, which I think the Government might be prepared to accept.
