My hon. Friend has tabled amendments Nos. 12 and 13. Amendment No. 13 states:"““but after the expiry of a period of fourteen days detention, no further detention shall be authorised solely to obtain evidence by questioning.””" May I take it from that that 14 days would not be regarded as the limit in those circumstances? What limit does my hon. Friend regard as necessary to accommodate the serious points that have been made by the police, the security services and others?
