I agree with the hon. Gentleman. Many of us in this place—I and colleagues on both sides of the Chamber—have argued for modernisation of the House. We have not gone far enough. We need completely to reinvent the role of the MP, but that is not the subject of the Bill. Its provisions are important, but they will not change things overnight. However, they are necessary and I commend them to the House.
