That contrasts greatly with what the Minister said to me about repeater signs. I ask simply that local authorities should have flexibility. The other point is that we want to see the position altered so that the policy would normally be 30 mph and the default position would be the higher limit. In reversing that, we are making it easier to set the 30 mph limit but, by exception, accepting that a local authority is the arbiter in deciding whether 30, 40, 50 or 60 is the appropriate speed through a village.
