Answer

Mr. John Smith: To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what action he proposes to take to address the recent reductions in cull cow prices. [17046] Mr. Win Griffiths: The majority of cull cows go through the Over Thirty Month Scheme (OTMS). The Government will spend more than £300 million this year on OTMS compensation and disposal. Compensation rates, and the scheme in general, are kept under review in the light of new scientific advice, market movements and costs.
