Question

To ask Her Majesty’s Government, further to the Written Answers by Earl Howe on 22 November (WA 222), what steps the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority will take in future to ensure that gamete providers are promptly notified when it becomes evident that any resulting embryos had been used in research without their consent.

Answer

The Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority has advised that the steps it would take would be within the scope of the authority's compliance and enforcement policy, which can be found on its website at: www.hfea.gov.uk/docs/2011-10-01_Compliance_and_Enforcement_ Policy_(2011).pdf.
