Agriculture: Dairy

Written question asked by Lord Christopher (Labour) on Wednesday, 10 November 2010, in the House of Lords. It was answered by Lord Henley (Conservative) on Wednesday, 10 November 2010.

Question

To ask Her Majesty’s Government, further to the Written Answer by Lord Henley on 21 October (WA 187), whether the Scottish Agricultural College study will consider cows' behaviour; and, if not, why not.

Answer

The Scottish Agricultural College research project ““A study to investigate the management and welfare of continuously housed dairy cows”” is considering cows’ behaviour. Specifically, it is investigating how housed dairy cattle might best be allowed to perform a full range of natural behaviour.
