Question

To ask Her Majesty's Government further to the Written Answer by Lord Darzi of Denham on 7 July (WA 127), whether an embryo in which cell division and development has ceased for at least 24 hours is considered by the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority or its peer reviewers to be optimal for derivation of stem cells.

Answer

The Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority has advised that this is not considered to be an optimal method for derivation of stem cells.
