Question

To ask the Minister of State, Department for Transport pursuant to the evidence submitted by his Department to the Transport Select Committee's inquiry into Delivering a Sustainable railway: a 30-year strategy for the railways, HC 219 (2007-08), how much his Department plans to spend in Control Period 4 (a) on improvements to medium-sized stations, (b) to facilitate strategic freight network infrastructure, (c) on the Network Rail Discretionary Fund and (d) on the delivery of 1,300 extra carriages.

Answer

These projects are to be financed and delivered by Network Rail and the Rolling Stock Leasing Companies. The Government have set out the funding of over £10 billion that it intends to make available for the Railway during Control period 4 in its White Paper, Delivering a Sustainable Railway.
