Embryology

Written question asked by Lord Alton of Liverpool (Crossbench) on Monday, 20 April 2009, in the House of Lords. It was answered by Lord Drayson (Labour) on Monday, 20 April 2009.

Question

To ask Her Majesty's Government further to the Written Answer by Lord Young of Norwood Green on 16 March (WA 3), why information on the ratios of scientific papers describing induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells to research council funding for such work could only be obtained at disproportionate cost.

Answer

The MRC does not hold information on the total number of research publications worldwide on induced pluripotent stem cells (iPS) or embryo-derived stem cells. To secure this information would require a detailed analysis of many hundreds of journals, and the costs would therefore be disproportionate.
