Question

To ask Her Majesty's Government further to the Written Answer by Lord Darzi of Denham on 23 March (WA 92), whether advances in nuclear transfer technology over the past decade have been essential to embryonic stem cell research; and, if not, which non-reproductive applications would benefit from nuclear transfer that have not been superseded by the use of induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells.

Answer

The Government have no view as to whether advances in nuclear transfer technology over the past decade have, or have not, been essential to embryonic stem-cell research. Parliament has voted in favour of pursuing all avenues of stem cell research in the United Kingdom.
