Business of the House

Business question from Lord Tyrie (Conservative) in the House of Commons on Thursday, 12 March 2009. It occurred during Business statement on Business of the House.
Nearly two years ago, as part of the campaign for the deputy leadership of the Labour party, the right hon. and learned Lady said that we need to be""absolutely certain we don't have a situation where we are complicit in torture"." Since then, there has been a raft of further allegations, some of them later substantiated in ministerial statements. Given that the Leader of the Opposition and Lord Carlile, the Government's watchdog on terrorism, have both called for a judicial inquiry into further allegations of British complicity, may we at least have a debate on why the Government continue to refuse to set that inquiry up?
