Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive

Oral question asked in the House of Lords, by Lord Greaves (Liberal Democrat). It was answered by Lord McKenzie of Luton (Labour) on Wednesday, 21 June 2006.

Question

What progress they have made on the implementation of the waste electrical and electronic equipment directive.

Answer

My Lords, since the Government announced last December a review of the proposals to implement the WEEE directive in the UK, the objective has been to achieve effective implementation as quickly as possible. Good progress has been made. A period of extensive informal consultation with stakeholders has allowed us to develop and test the robustness of our overall approach. We now expect formal consultation on draft regulations to take place later this summer, with a view to the implementing regulations being laid before the end of the year.
