Dangers of Wild Bird Food

Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Lord Beith (Liberal Democrat), on Monday, 30 April 1990, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 19 members in total.
That this House notes with concern that no controls exist on the content of aflatoxin in nuts sold as wild bird food, although controls exist in respect of food destined for farm animals and captive birds; further notes that aflatoxin is so lethal that a few pounds of nuts infected with aflatoxin would be enough to kill a cow; is concerned that wild birds may be dying as a result of this loophole; and calls upon the Government to act promptly to extend the remit of the Feeding Stuffs Regulations 1982 to protect the population of British wild birds.
